Options factory or dealer

Who's the expert on options?

I purchased my 72 CST blazer from the original owner with the protect-o-plate, manuals and receits and it has a lot of things that aren't on the glove box sticker. The old guy told me that this stuff was on the blazer when he drove it off the lot. These are things that I have heard people on this board talk about as factory or dealer installed like roof rack, rear tire carrier, brush guard, front axel support, compass, roll bar, interior rear side panels etc. There are also some items that haven't been addressed as factory or dealer installed like a front axle engage light, dome light on roll bar, passenger entry assist handle, level-o-gauge, bedside tiedowns etc. Now some of these things I don't think are dealer installed, but others I wonder about. There is another wierd thing, my blazer has power steering and power brakes, but only one of them is listed in the glove box. I think it was the steering.

Sometimes people special order vehicles then refuse to buy them, maybe yours was ordered without power brakes then the guy didn't buy it, so they added it to help it sell. My dad told me a story from years ago, a drag racer around here wanted some special 4 speed tranny, so he had a friend go down to the dealership and order a car with that tranny, well, when it came in, the friend refused to buy the car, the a few days later, when the dealership opended up one morning, the car was there, but the tranny had mystiriously disappeared!

Power disc brakes were standard starting in 71 so power brakes would not be listed on the option sheet.

Not true...disc brakes were standard...power was optionally.
The interior rear side panels were part of the CST if I am not mistaken.
The rest all sounds like dealer stuff to me.
As for the option sheet not listing it all, i have yet to get a truck that has all the installed options listed on there.

Judgement call (crapshoot) If it looks like it is 30 years old, and says anything about GM on it chances are, dealer.
If it seems to be a common thing, and you've seen it/heard of it on here or in GM literature, it's probably all good.
My GMC owner's manual shows about 4 pagers of dealer items...some good stuff too.

I don't know about 1972, but if you click on the following link you can see the dealer installed options available for 1968. It also says that some of these options were also available straight from the factory, but this section came out of the "dealer" installed options section of the 1968 Data Book. They are on the bottom of the page on the following link. Hey Randy (fast68), did you resto packet have this

My books show that power brakes were standard on a 72 4x4 blazer. It is listed on the back of the original brochure book.

resto pack data book copies dotn include dealer optioons pages sections either, just engine clutch and factory options pages sections,m the 67 one has extra in it though, they give you over twice as many pages on that one for some odd reason.,
i need ot call them and ask for paint and body sections for 68 and 72 truck and see,,,,

there were tons of dealer available things anything from tissue dispensers to cab marker lamps to eagles and feathers etc decal packages to all kinds of stuff,, in the dealer catalog the red full wheel covers with fake lugnuts are shown for 67-72, they were the only red bowtie covers or caps you could get after 68, otherwise red was in only 68 and older from factory,
