Another trans question
My 70 GMC....I-6 n 3spd.....I have the opportunity to get a Turbo 350....which IF....I convert to a V-8 in the future...will probably be the way to go.
Would it be best to install it now....behind the 6 cyl....and finish the cab....*ie putting an auto column OR mounting a floor shifter...I allready have some captains seats that I'd like to use...out of a Dodge Caravan*, ect, or leave it until the v8 is ready....IF I ever get that far. What would I need to change now...trans mounts....flywheel...ect??...to be ready for the future?...Any of this making sense? The V8 may never happen....but seems the T350 would be easier in the long run. Seems better to plan NOW...than change midstream. Thanks in advance for any and all replies.. Billy G

If you install the auto now, you'll have to make driveshaft mods and install the correct crossmember. Then, later when you go V8 and move everything forward to the front set of holes, you'll have to re-do the driveshaft a second time.
You'd have to install your V8 in the inline engine position to keep from having to re-do it again.
