Dana 20 X-fer case

Hey, I don't see much talk about the Dana 20. I have one in my 70 Blazer. What's wrong with it?

Thanks,
Davy

Nothing really, you must have an I6. I had a dana20 in an old scout II I had. It's gear driven, just not as strong as the NP205.

Cool Link.

Actually, I have a 350ci. Originally equiped. Strange, eh?

I was always planning to convert to a TH350 and NP205 since they were also options in 70 Blazers.....but now I might just leave the 4 speed and D20.

Hmm... I thought the dana20s only came behind I6 w/ 3spd manual. Which 4spd do you have?

Jim, I thought the same thing when I bought the Blazer, but the glove box says 350ci and 4 speed.

Very strange.

My 70 K5 also had a 350 in it with a 4 speed and supposedly a Dana 20. It was gone when I got the K5 but the transfer case crossmember confirms it was a Dana 20 in there.

Yukon,

Can you tell me how you knew from the crossmember? Are they different?

Thanks,
Davy

I swapped in an NP205 and found out the Dana 20 crossmember has to be dropped down about 1" to allow the NP205 to fit.

The NP205 crossmember puts the tc about 1" lower than the Dana 20 crossmember.

That's good to know, since I'm considering the same swap. I already have the NP205 and it's crossmember too.

Thanks again.

I have a Dana 20 in my 1970 Jimmy. It also has a 350 and a 4 speed.
Thinking about swapping in a 205, thanks for the heads up.
