will a 65 dash fit in a 71?
hey all,
well this is a strange question but i'm curious. i like the looks of the 65 dash better than my 71 but i don't have a mid 60's truck to take measuments off of. long story short will the older style dash fit my 71 without 1000 of hours of mods or am i opening up a can of worms? here's a pic of a 65 dash http://woogeroo.home.mindspring.com/...142003/36.html thanks all, ondrew p.s. anyone done this mod and have pictures? |

I am no welder but it doesn't appear to look like much fun to me. It prob can be done but I am sure it will take alot of fiddling/fabricating/welding to make it fit right.

But don't let that stop you... enjoy modding your truck to make it what YOU want it to be.

I think where the dash hooks to the windshield would be your biggest dilemma.

It looks like it would be easiest to just replace the lower section...in my opinion anyway. It would be a really trick mod!

Please, just say NO to any form of dash hacking.

i guess the better guestion would be why is it a stupid idea? we all seek to add our own personality to our trucks so why not something big. i'm interested in hearing your opinion but saying an idea is stupid without reasoning makes no sence in my veiw.

Its no different than putting in a '59 impala dash (which looks really trick btw) The only difference is your using the dash you want. Note: Keep this thread civil! |

I guess I'll let what my Mom taught me prevail: "If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all." So, I won't...........I'll just let this say it for me:

roj2323, how's this going? if you havent started, i would take a lot of hard measurements and examine the wiring of the steering column and such. also how the steering column mounts. i agree with the idea that if you are only replacing the face of the dash and not the entire understructure, it looks like it could be done pretty easily. take that with a grain of salt as i can only see the pics and havent looked at it in person. welding the 66 dash face in place of the later unit would be a challenge, but should be doable. i would watch really close for distortion of the mounting points. i assume you want to bolt it back in, right?
go for it! and keep us informed. |

Any more negativism at all and I'm locking this one.
There's other boards on the net for flaming and ugliness. This one ain't one of them.
