Here is a picture of the new bed in my son's work truck. I used wood from Chevy Duty and cross sills and strips from Mar-K. Stain was Minwax Golden Oak and varnish is three coats of Behr Spar urethane (semi gloss). The bed has been in-service six months and the varnish is cracking/peeling in some spots. I plan to use Imron clear on the next one, hoping for better durability.

Spar urethane or varnish will not hold up very long on wood beds.
