changing brake lines

I am getting started on swapping to disc and 5 lug on my 69 this weekend. This might be wishful thinking as it is supposed to be raining this weekend (no garage). My question is how much of my existing brake lines can I use? Can I use the existing lines from the crossmember back to the rear axle? I know that I am going to have to change most if not all of the front brake lines. Thanks for your help.

I didn't have to change around any front brake lines on my 68 when I did it, just replace the flex hoses that ran from the hard lines to the brakes. In the rear I think you can re-use all the same lines except for the one going between the two drum brakes, you may have to re-plumb that one, but shouldn't be a big deal.

I don't know for sure, its been a while, but that is how I remeber it.

Thanks portmod I was just wondering. I will take a look and see what I need. It was so easy to get the lines off of the donor truck with no motor in it.

Most of the lines will work just fine as is. You may have some issues around the proportioning valve if you're swapping to a power setup from non-power. And, naturally, you'll have to swap out the rubber lines.

Here is a thread where I showed lots of pictures as how I swapped my 70 model truck over to discs. I redid the lines. Pics are labeled and pretty self explanatory.

I put a 1979 5 lug disc complete front end under my 69 GMC and modified 79 caddy disc rear end also (it has the truck bolt pattern). I re-used the steel lines at the front and just replaced the rubber ones. The lines to the rear were re-used also with minor mods at the rubber hose to the rear end. I used the steel lines that were on the rearend. I did have to replumb the lines from master cylinder to the prop valve for the disc brakes.
