difference between a cab & chassis and dually?

I just bought an 85 4 door 1 ton with a work bed and dual wheels. I am tring to figure out if it is a dually or a cab and chassis. How can I tell the difference?

If its a 14-bolt, then its a C&C. If its a Dana 70, its a dually pickup with the box removed.

The C&C is a much narrower axle... this pic shows how close the tire is the springs on these models:

So cab and chassis used the side mounted tank like the pic above shows? There is a flatbed here locally that has an in between rail frame fuel tank in the back, like a Blazer would use. I figured it was a stock c&c thing.

Seems like it would interfere with underbed tool boxes and such.

Yes.... saddle tanks are stock on the C&C trucks too. Other tank configurations are sometimes done by the body upfitter, or a clever owner.

Most modern C&C trucks come standard with a mid tank, and an optional rear. The wreckers don't want the rear tank - no room for the wheel-lift. Some of the flatdecks take out the mid tank to make room for a knuckle-boom crane.

Thanks! Mine is a C&C. I was hoping for a dually. Is a dana 70 stronger than a 14 bolt? Do you know how about how much diffence there is in width between the two? I'm going to be installing air ride and want the wheels to tuck, but don't want the wheels to be too far in.

Cab & chassis: ~63" wide
Dually pickup: ~74" wide
Single-wheel: 67" wide

Both the axles have a 10.5" ring gear and 1.5" shafts. There are some differences but largely don't matter unless you're into lockers, really deep gearing, or are hauling extremely heavy loads.
