Brake Light Problem

My son has a 1998 Chevy pickup. The brake lights will work sometimes and sometimes they won't. The third light on the cab always works. Also sometimes one or the other will work. Next day they will both work. Any ideas on where to start.

grounds back by the trailer hitch if you have one but in that area. I think there is some on the driver side.

Water in the circuit board connectors on the back of the taillights. And the trailer wireing is a very good place to start..
