Question 4l60e questions

OK this tranny is behind a LT1 in a '96 caprice cop car I'm looking at, It is either a 4l60e or a 4l80e, I think.

It will go into drive and proceed normally down the road and then will pop out of gear and let out an ungodly grinding noise.

Once you stop, put it into park and then back into drive it will proceed normally again and then start with the popping out of gear and the grinding again.

There is no reverse to speak of either, it just grinds as well.

Any ideas as to what is going on, possibly an internal linkage/park pin issue?

Any and all suggestions and comments are welcome.

I am looking at getting the whole car as a donor for Screamin

Get ahold of these guys http://teamtripp.com/index.htm

They post frequently on the Impala SS forum and are very knowledgeable about that transmission.
