New Carpet installed - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I installed the carpet saturday. The kit I used was made by Custom Auto Carpets Inc. When I first took it out of the box it was pretty wadded up, but after a couple hours in the warm desert sun it smoothed right out. The fit was excellent, and the overall quality was better than I anticipated. I was surprised that the front area had dense padding that was about a half inch thick. For sound deadening under the carpet I used a prduct similar to bituthane. It's an adhesive backed weatherproofing material. I hope I never have to remove it because that stuff is really stuck. I bought it at home depot. Twenty bucks for a 12X36" roll. There was plenty to do the floor, most of it double thick. It might not be as effective as Dynamat or similar products, but the price was definatly right. Between the carpet, and the sticky black stuff it really quieted things down. It's like driving a different truck with everything I've done in the last couple weeks. Next weekend I plan on building a console, and carpeting the kick panels. I went to the carwash this morning to vacuum it out and clean things up, but couldn't stop there and ended up detailing the whole dang truck.

Nice, you do have a very nice clean truck. I like the idea of using the weatherproofing material for insulation, did it make that big of a difference? I am at that crossroads of what to use, brown bread and dynamat come to mind, but they are quite a bit of money. And I am all for saving money

shifty; The seats are definatly in the plans. I'm not sure what color I'm going to use yet.

striker; The Speakers are just some Pioneers I'm not sure what model. There's plenty room down there. You shouldn't have to worry about clearance.

67shorty; Before I installed it I drummed on the floorboard with my hand so I could compare it afterwards. It made a big difference.

From a design perspective, what would rock socks would be white leather seats with black trim and/or accents. If leather is too pricey, I would go with white vinyl. Hell, you could probably get an upholstery shop to make some toss-over covers for around $75/each. Might even be cheaper than that. They can probably give you an idea of what would look best also. I just figure if you're sticking with the 75% / 25% (white / black) setup in there, you may as well stick with the same colour scheme or whatever. Do white covers, black trim and then repaint the base of the seats in a deep black to blent in with the carpet. Will really make the seats stand out.

1STtime; The seats are from a mid eightys olds wagon. The covers are from the swap meet...

71-longbed; The carpet was $140 I bought it locally at Tuckers.

kaycee; I can't remember what the brand name was on the package, but you'll find it in the roofing materials section. It's used for flashing skylights and similar applications.

shifty; I'm really leaning towards white vinyl on the seats. dark colored seats get smokin' hot out here in the summertime.

I'll be out there in May to remember what that's like.

My aunt races cars in Vegas, meeting her and my parents out there mid-to-late May to see her make a few runs on the strip.

Any idea on when you plan to do the seats?
