Teflon tape is a good thing on pipe threaded fittings. Stuff like water pump pipe nipples and intake pipe nipples are fine. The compression fitting is what is suppose to seal the hard line connections. Not the threads. If a compression fitting won't seal it needs to be replaced. They are not good for life so to speak. Each time they are taken apart they need tightened a little more to get a seal. Eventually, they won't seal correctly no matter how tight you make them.

anything that has pipe threads. Like the fitting that screws into the water pump for the heater hoze hook-up. Or the oil pressure line hook up at the back of the block.

If it makes you feel better you can use teflon paste on the threads. Similar to tape in that it seals threads. Since it is a paste not a tape, no strings can travel.

teflon paste or tape will make turning those threads easier when you make them up.I put teflon on all tapered threads and sometimes on flare fittings just to make the thread glide easier.Teflon is not a sealant, only a lubricant to help a tapered thread reach its make up home.

Teflon tape is a wonderful thing, and as franko72 says it makes turning threads easier... in fact so easy that when I was installing the pipe thread brass cooler line fittings into a aluminum transmission case they went in so F___ing easy that I cracked the case (you can only imagine the expletives streaming from my garage that day) so be judicial when torquing fittings when using this stuff.

Franko is correct, or at least that is what i have been taught as well, that Teflon tape is for lubricity and NOT sealing purposes.
