I don't remember if mine has a long or short pump but it does have a 4 core rad from the factory. When I did my BB swap I couldn't use the pullies that were on the motor so I used a set from an 86 350. The PS pump is from a 78 BB truck. Don't know if that helps but I thought I'd throw it out there for ya...

Shadetree,
Yes to all the questions you asked. I have a 402 in a 72 LWB with a long water pump and a 4 core radiator. I am using some stock pulleys and had no problems with clearance. The fan is a plastic flex-a-lite with an off the shelf spacer. I did the intallation myself. Original motor was a 350. I do have the correct 72 towers installed in the front holes. Good luck. Feel free to PM me with any furthur questions.

on gm cars the shortwater pump was used on bbc til 1968,the 69 model year was the first year for longwater pump, on chevrolet trucks shortwater used til 1972 on your 396 402 and your badged 400 which was either a 396 or a 402.The longwater pump showed up for the first time in 1973 on the trucks.
