I didn't even pay attention to the air cleaner the first time that I saw the pictures.

These air cleaners have been known to catch fire after a backfire and start engine fires that have literally burned the vehicle down to the ground. It is cheap insurance to replace them.

Yes, the foam absorbs small amounts of gas, and if you have a backfire it will catch fire.
