Frame numbers

I need to have my truck (Vin inspected) to change states licence, One of the things they want to see is the frame numbers, Any one tell me where they are on the frame and are they just my complete Vin or a code or what?

Front drivers side frame rail, on top, back a couple inches from the steering gear box...this is a partial VIN....enough to shut them up anyways.
If they are really anal and want to be a PITA, tell them under the drivers seat, on the top of the frame rail....they'll need a flashlight and a mirror. I can't remember if that one is full or partial though.
