73-75 doors vs 76-91 doors
I just bought a 73-75 windshield for my blazer but I dont have matching doors. Could I modify my current doors to be the same or do I have to find a set of 73-75 doors. What would be involved in the modification?

You can just modify yours to fit. i would get your windsheild frame welded in and mount your hardtop. Then start cutting your doors untill they fit exactly where you need them to. Cut off a little at a time so you won't go too far.

If you don't have a hard top and NEVER plan on running one, then you don't really need to install the windshield frame off the older trucks. The windshield frame is just so that you have a place to seal the hardtop too. You can cut your current top of and then mount. cap it and make it smooth. Then mount the soft top you get to it. I would still wait untill you get the softop on so you can at least see how far back or forward you need to cut the top and doors.
Something else you may not have thought of is your rocker reinforcement. On the 73-75 trucks they had rocker boxes under the passenger and drivers side to keep the body from twisting too much. These were eliminated in 76 when they went with the half cab. I cut the top on my 86 and the very first time I took it out wheeling I broke the windshield because it hit my roll bar. It was never a problem when I had the half cab on it. |

I plan on running a hard top as soon as I find one but they are pretty scarce. How should I reinforce the rocker area?

If you don't have the hard top yet then I would either wait to cut the doors, or find another 73-75 blazer and take LOTS of measurements.
The rockers can be reinforced by cutting the outer edge of your current rockers and welding in some 2x3 rectangular tubing to stiffen the body up. If you go to CK5.com and do a search in the garage you will find lots of pics. |

If you have access to a 73-75 service manual it actually has measurements and pictures on how to cut down the truck doors. I guess that is how they did it at the factory too

when GM offered doors for the Blazers, they came with a pickup door and instructions on how to cut it. If you plan on running power windows and such, get a set of newer doors and cut them off. Then everything will bolt in.
