oil pan
I need to change the oil pan on my 69 c10. It's got a small hole in it. Any tips/tricks or is this a straight forward procedure? Anything else I should check/replace while this is off, like the pump?

If I was gong to take off the pan I would change the rear main seal, Maybe the pump and look at the bearings.

Get the one piece gasket when you put it back on.

definately get the one piece gasket. felpro # 34510 for thick up front. #34509 for thin up front.iirc.
be sure & check the gasket/p.n before you leave/pay. the 34500 is for the lt-1 & won't fit. these gaskets come with plastic instal studs that are great! if you have some disposeable income might i suggest the stefs aluminum pan & pump kit from jegs: http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...11&prmenbr=361 if you are short on cashola maybe get it welded up? either way, if more than 25k on the clock go ahead & do the rear main & pump. hope this helps

autozone carries the one piece gasket like 25 bucks its the only way to go comes with clips to hold the oilpan and gasket up. Just tell them to look up the part # above and they will get it the local one hear had it the guy behind the counter was amazed at the quality.

Thanks for all the replies. Does the engine need to be raised to get the pan off?
And pardon my ignorance, but i'm a little confused on the following: "felpro # 34510 for thick up front. #34509 for thin up front" Are these two different options or two pieces I need? How do I know which to get? |

s.b. chevies have two different front pan seals.one is thicker than the other.
the factory pan gasket is four pieces;two rail pieces, a front piece & a rear piece. the one piece fel-pro gaskets are just that; one piece. when you get your old front pan seal off take it with you to get the new gasket. or you can buy both listed above & just return the one you don't use. just match the old front pan seal thickness to the new gasket.
