See the FAQ forum. There's a thread on the conversion near the top. In fact, all technical threads and howto threads are located there. There's hardly any fabrication involved, so a novice could get away with doing it right.

What is your budget? More funds usually make things easier.

There are plenty of kits out there that make this very easy,
I am doing a complete frame off rebuild.

I bought the kits from CPP in california, so I would have all new
parts. You can piece stuff together from jukyard and searching the board threads.

Where are you located? I have a 5 lug disc brake front crossmember complete hub to hub from a '71 2wd I am parting. If close to Wichita, Ks. maybe we can get together on it. Won't fit my '71 6 lug 4x4, bought the truck for some other parts when I restored the truck.

Talking

Changing to discs by going to a complete cross member as Ironhorse suggested is a good way to go. Although going to discs can be done by piecing parts together, changing the cross member takes care of a lot of problems.

thanks just bought it a few weeks ago for ~$3800. Already put a new 250 engine in it and HEI ignition. Possibly going to throw a new tranny and some headers in it soon so I can start working on the suspension, then the body (previous owner painted over some rust in a few spots) then give it some balls in the form of a larger engine and tranny.

Welcome to the forums
