Won a tach Cluster on ebay what do you guys think???
hey guys,
just wondering what you guys think.. just won it on ebay.. looked like a good buy.. seems like everything looks good in the pics. even the needles look about the same. no discoloured ones? was that a good price? might need to get a bezel. heres the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=7966189503 Joel

randy,
can you tell me what exactly you do when you restor it? the back of the cluster looks very good no rust from what i can see. do you just take them apart and clean everything put a new bezel on them and maybe media blast that rear housing that holds it all together and then paint it? you also paint the needles too right. let me know joel

Man, I hate to tell you, but you got ripped off bad! Tell ya what, I'll help you cut your losses, just sell it to me for $100 and you can put that towards a better one
Great score! They are worth about what you paid for it, and a little bit more. If it also had the factory vacuum gage I've seen 'em as high as $450 on e-bay!

Well, i got this cluster and its in very good shape. didnt look so hot once i got it. needs a new bezel for sure. figured that anyways, the lense is pretty scuft up but no deep scratches. that covered up how good those gauges really look. so i was planning on buffing if but im not sure how? if anyone could explain to me what i need. figure i need a buffing wheel for a bench grinder and maybe some type of conpound? i have some ipod cleaner scratch remover maybe that would work. just with a cloth. i have done that on my ipod may times. it looks like the same type of plastic. anyways all the main gauges like the speedo, fuel and tach are mint.. look pretty close to new. paint is mint on them. pretty close to zero rust on the back housing. the other housing that covers the lense is mint no rust what so ever. but im pretty happy with this thing so far. does anyone else no how i can test the tach? and find out of its a V8 or 6 cyl tach? please let me know. would appreciate any help.
thanks, Joel

If you have HEI it does not matter if a 6 or 8. Should be stamped in on the back in blue ink. I used a poslih for paint worked great. Dont do the back no need the scratches are on the front.
