67 headlight trim questions

how in the heck do i get the hazey stuff of the headlight trim there in good shape but i cant get the haze off them, have they got a clear coat or sumthing on them ? how can i get them shiny again ? without the haze

I would like to see pictures.

If it's raw aluminum, I would try Mothers Aluminum and Mag Wheel polish. It comes in a small can you can buy in the auto section of most retail stores like Walmart or whatever. You can google for it to see what it looks like.

You can use this stuff to buff out your aluminum to a shine, then re-clearcoat if you like. The stuff works like magic.

I think they are annodized. (sp) Use paint strippers the polish. The annodizing is pitted most likley. I just did my passengers side I wet sanded it with 1000 1500 2000 the polished it with a buffing wheel on the bench grinder.

here a pic of the trim peice before i do anthing to it i am going today to get sum snadpaper and try that i have used the moters stuff nad even used buffing compound and a drimel ,so i am going to try the sanding thing and see what happinds

There is a coating on those bezals that you need to remove before you sand.....

That is what is hazing, so use something like a paint stripper, then you can see if you can get away with just polishing, or if you need to sand and then polish.

ok cool !! i went to the local paint shop and ask the same question i ask here they said yes there is a coating on there (which i aready knew from here on the board) and thay said they got this stuff(no name on the bottle ) you mix with warm water and it strips the stuff off the trim peice !!! and then all i got to do is polish the peice and then reclear coat it and it will look like new again !!!!! i havent tryed it yet but i will when i get the time to mess with it and post what happins !!! hopefull soon

well i coundnt sleep and went out and used the powder stuff i got at the local paint shop and it worked really good on one but the other 3 didnt do so good ( i had 4 of them to play with ) but i think i can sand the rest of the clear off with a skoch<sp? bright pad or sand paper then polish them out the rest of the way then reclear them !!!! i will get pics in the morning when theres light out side to show eveybody

ok heres the best 2 frist, they turned out the best of the 4



and heres the other 2 they didnt turn out as good as the frist 2 and i am not happy with the way any of them turned out

It is almost worth replacing them. I have used Wenol and good old fashioned elbow grease and still wasn't satisfied until I replaced them. So, now I have the original for everyday use and some real shiney for show!

if it was a show truck yea i would replace them but its not a show truck its just my summer daily driver so i will just play with these till i get them lookin better
