Help with pulse wipers
Hello all, I've been working on my truck the past few weeks to get ready for the trip I just got back from (8hrs down empty with trailer- 10hrs back loaded to the gills and a 65 bel air!). Last week I checked my wipers and all worked well. I turned on my wipers the other day and only have high speed! I have an 83 with pulse type switch mounted on the dash. Any ideas? Why is it working in high speed only?? Hope someone can help. David

Good question
Mine do(es) the same thing. Only not all of the time. I've pryed the switch apart & cleaned up all of the surfaces. No change. The I pulled it apart again and carefully lubed it with copper grease. Okay, it's better but still a little funny. Try cleaning it up, it may improve it, but if my epxerience is typical, you'll end up getting a new one eventually. I'm hoping someone tells me I'm wrong & posts a solution. Good luck w/ the switch but more importantly, good luck with the bel air.

Most likely the Pulse controller under the dash
I am not familiar with the 83 but the 86 model has a wiper module located under the dash, attached to the steering column.
I think the high speed wiper switch setting, bypasses the pulse controller. My controller had broken solder joints on the main transistor that is used to pulse the wiper motor, touched it up with a soldering iron and no more problems. Good luck.

Thanks for the info Hacksaw. My switch is on the dash, but more likely is the same principle. I'll have to check into cleaning the switch or getting a new one. I was also thinking that high speed bypassed everything, so that sounds like the pulse/intermit part of my switch is bad. I'll post later if I find out what it is. David

Not to hijack anybody's thread or anything, but you guys might have accidentally answered my question.... I installed a tilt column from a truck with cruise and intermittent wipers into my 85 GMC which didn't come with those options. Everything works OK except the wipers, they only work on low no matter where the switch is, I'm guessing now that I may need one of those modules. Well, off to the junk yard

I believe if the switch is on the dash, the module is a little different.

That box isn't the pulse wiper module. The wiper module has an aluminum heatsink on one side and looks like this:
I think the box above is for cruise control.
