While in route home from work today my heater core decided to spring a pretty good LEAK in my passanger floor board. Has anyone replaced theirs? If so can you give me any tips as in how to proceed?

Actually not too bad to replace

Do yourself a favour and take both the dash pad and the glove box on. Its only a few bolts, and makes things a lot easier The bolts for the dash pad are to the right of the gauges along the bottom of the dash pad, and the glove box bolts are along the bottom. The dash pad then just pulls off. Be gentle though, they can be cracked surprisingly easy. The glove box has several small bolts along the bottom that are taken off, and it pulls right out.

Then go to the engine compartment, and pull the passenger side inner fender off. There are two bolts on the bottom of the inner fender behind the wheel, three bolts to the bottom of the core support, possibly a bolt for your battery tray, and several bolts along the top of the inner fender. Just let it fall down onto the wheel, that will give you all the space you need.

Then go and take all of the bolts out that are around the heater box housing in the engine compartment, along with the two or three bolts that hold it in on the inside. Some trucks also had a support bar that go from the fire wall just above the pass side valve cover that will then go to the dash inside, simply unbolt it and take it out as well, as it may get in the way. Then undo the small bolt that goes between the upper air ducting, and the bottom air ducting right behind the ash tray.

The lower ducting should be free to be pulled out now if I haven't forgotten about any bolts. As soon as you pull it off, you will see the heater core. There are two small bolts that hold it in, undo them, pull the old core off, put the new one in, and put the whole mess back together the same way it came apart

When you put the lower ducting back into place, return the small bolt to where it was, then get some duct tape and wrap that seam, it makes a BIG difference with how much air flow you will have to the defrost vents.

If your truck is AC, it will be a much different procedure than this, and I can't help you there

Take your inner fender out. you will have to take the outer a/c box lose becouse the studs from the heater box that go thru the fire wall have little nuts under the a/c box. On the inside small screws on some of the ducts and some bolts that hold box to fire wall. al thats left is cables and vac tubes. PS take glove box out it makes life EZr. Matt

Finished It !!!

UPDATE,
Well, Friday night at 9:00pm me and a friend started to remove and replace the heater core. It took about 3 hours and we didn't get in any rush.
I first took the glove box out and removed all the plastic a/c duct work from under the dash. Then, I went to the engine compartment and removed the nuts and bolts around the a/c box on the fire wall. There are only two that give you any problems and they are located under the box. I did not have to remove the inner fender! Use a long extension with a swivl and alittle patience and it can be done. DO NOT GET IN A RUSH!!! Take your time and it will go smooth. Once we got those off the a/c box with the heater core in it will come out from inside. Place it on a bench and carefully take it apart. Remove and replace the heater core and reverse the whole thing. Didn't get mad once, and if I can you can.

WOLFMAN.
