Switching to a 4x4
I have a 72 Sierra Grande that I'm thinking of putting on a 4x4 frame. Will any 4x4 from 67-72 fit? Or are there any success/horror stories about doing this?

Your 72 will bolt right up to a 67-72 chassis, you need either the high hump cab or a body lift kit to clear the transfer case. That body will mount on a newer chassis, but you need to reconfigure your body mounts (contact mudder67, that is what he did).

I'd say best option is to find a 71-72 chassis at least...you'd keep disc brake that way up front....no need for body frame mounts to be moved in that case also.....just a 3/4 ton or 4x4 rubber mount body kit as there bigger on 4x4's than 2 wd 1/2 tons.
A 4x4 truck chassis is best but done a 4x4 suburban chassis also. Only need to exchange the rear cab mounts and mounts for the box off the frame for a swap too.

I have done the swap with a '72 K20 Suburban chassis. Like Rod said all you have to do is transfer the rear cab mount bracket and the bed mounts. You will also have to cut 11" off the frame and redrill holes for the rear bumper brackets. like dtlilly said you will need a high hump center floorboard. I have one if you would like it. I have some other parts too if you're interested.

I put a 70 C20 cab on a 71 K20 chassis. I cut the low hump out of the C20 and bolted in the high hump from the old cab. The C20 was auto and the 71 a 4spd, so I swapped steering columns and had to bypass the neutral safety switch for the auto. As far as body mounts by ones for a 4wd and you'll have what you need.
