Do 67-72 tailgates not come off easy?

Hey guys,
I was trying to remove my tailgate today and realized that it doesnt come off like the 73+ do. You can unhook the straps and lower the gate more, but it doesnt pull off. Doesnt look like there is a trick to it, other than unbolt it which isnt going to happen on my truck. Im not missing something am I?
Cheers.

No you're not missing anything. On our body style trucks you have to unbolt the tailgate trunions to remove the gate. On my 72 we modified the trunions to work like the later model quick release. It wasn't hard and still just as strong as before...

You only need to un-bolt one side. It`s not so bad.I`ve notched them before too.Thing is,then you get the tailgate down/hit bump/tailgate falls off thing.I only run with it down if I`m hauling something that requires it.
