Need Recommendation for 700R4 Vacuum Switch

Does anybody know where I can buy a vacuum switch for my 700R4 torque converter clutch control wiring? Right now I just have the tcc wired to my brake switch, and the engine bogs down pretty bad if I drive up a slight hill and I'm not going very fast.

This is the best switch going today. I've used it on my 700R4 for 4+ years. Not a single problem, super simple to hook up. Just plug it up and forget about it. No switches, no brake light hookups. Just simple....Jerry

I'm making a set up that allows 3rd (for towing) and 4th gear lockup based on MPH and engine load (adjustable). This set up uses a vacuum switch and encoder thats in-line with speedo cable and controller circuit. I think I can make make and sale for 110.00. PM me if you have some time before you need it.

As far as towing, wouldn't you just shift back into drive (3rd) and leave it there? Thats what my dad does with his newer model Chevrolet truck......Jerry

Most the kits I looked at only lock in 4th. So you have to do a manual switch to lock in 3rd.

If you dont use a min MPH for 3rd gear lock you the converter will lock up at about 20mph at min load. This puts you engine RPM down to 750 rpm with 3.08 rear gear.

I'm hoping just to buy the vacuum switch by itself, without a kit. The wiring is simple enough. In my opinion the kits are a rip-off for what you get.

The encoder inline with the speedometer cable sounds cool. Something like that would be worth the money for the right application. I'm not going to be doing any towing though.

I'm sure you could manage to get something to work just fine off of a boneyard vehicle, just like some of the other guys here. Not one thing wrong with that, don't get me wrong. That will take you going to the yard, crawling under a truck and removing all that you need, paying anywhere from $10 to $20 for everything and hoping everything is in good shape and will hook up easily. With this kit, I pulled the truck into the shop, put it up on a lift and 25 minutes after opening the box and reading the (very precise and helpful) directions, I was done with all new wiring, switches, etc. All that for $65 is a deal to me......Jerry

GM part #14014519 sells for $44.24 at our local Chevy dealership. Anybody know if this switch has two terminals, or does it just have one, and connects the terminal to ground when the switch is activated?

is this what you are looking for. If it is figure shipping from UPS at 75040 UPS is right by my work so its easy for me the number on it looks like 14032087 I also have a new drive shaft for a 700r 350 combo LWB but I am not to sure on shipping

Phil,
If you still have the vacuum line that hooked to the switch, send him the thing that looks like a very small fuel filter. He will need that too. I don't remember what is was called but it keeps the TCC from locking/unlocking rapidly. Makes it "more stable." Both of the parts came from a Suburban-80's vintage.

Where is the vacuum switch usually located in the early 80s trucks? Is it in the engine compartment somewhere?

I have a friend that has an 85 and it is under the hood on the passenger side on the fire wall. I think the thing he is talking about you should be able to get at NAPA. I think it is a vacuum check valve
