GM Assembly Manual
I am doing a stock restoration and wondering if the assembly manual shows where the stickers go etc. Who produces a good assembly manual or do I have to find an original? I see them on ebay for about $40. Has anyone used one of these and are they any good?

The assembly manual has a wealth of information and it is well worth getting.
The problem with them is the information is scattered throughout and it does not have an index. It is a great book to look through! Here is a link to another source for the book, ($40). Jim http://www.gregsonline.com/eshop/Htm...ruck-books.htm |

JimK, Thanks that is the kind of input that I am looking for. I think I will have to try one of those.

The assembly manual is loaded with good info just hard to find anything. Sort of like a phone book thats not in alphabetical order. Chris

It shows dimensions for mounting emblems and trim. The irritating thing is that a lot of the dimensions are measured from datum lines that reference the front of the truck. It's not very practical if you don't have the factory assembly jigs sitting in your garage.

I saw a couple of pages in there for assembly order for a bed, and front end alignment adjustments. But if your looking for a manual on how to rebuild or assemble a bed your probably better off checking with Bruce Horkey, he might have a book available. I know he does for wood installation kits. Front end rebuild-chiltons. I'ts a good book, lots of pictures in no certain order. No part numbers. It also seems like there is info missing as well. Like somebody robbed the prints off of an engineers desk and threw them haphazardly into a book. I sit in front of the TV at night flagging pages with post-it notes that I want to refer to in the future!

Try the Chevrolet Overhaul Manual for front end and component rebuilds. They are excellent. The Chassis Service Manual has the sheet metal and bed assembly in it and is the best you are going to find. It is pretty basic stuff but can be helpful. There are not many part numbers in the Chevy factory manuals but the pictures and/or diagrams are there and they are pretty much model specific so there is not much chance for confusion. I find them much better than anything else.
I want to get the assembly manual for just the reason that pj mentioned...for location of emblems, decals, stickers etc. where the factory was supposed to put them. I am going to attempt a 100 pt. resto so need all that stuff. It is interesting that even the Chevrolet sales brochure is inconsistent on details. Having been there I understand this issue. Detials like the engine displacement tags on the valve covers can drive you nuts. In the sales brochure it shows them on the valve covers in one picture and missing in others...so what is it?

Get the assembly manual and go through it 4-5 times with the little bookmark stickies. It is worth it.
