What are the widest tires that can be fit under the wheelwells? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have seen lots of pics of these trucks in the Pro Street fashion. What I am wondering is what is the largest tires that can be fit between the fender and the frame rail? I do understand that the box would need modifications to the wheel tub area. I am thinking somewhere around 12-14" wide?

I run 31X10.50X15's with no problem. They've never even offered to rub and thats with a totally stock stance. Jeff.

I've got 32x12.50's on my truck, didnt have any problems front or rear until i switched out my spindles, now it'll rub when i go over a speedbump/dip too quick (20+) sucks but i'll fix it soon. The rears clear no problem from what i can tell, but i'm yet to load 3tons in the sucker so i dunno

285/40/20, good fit, havent driven on it but i think if i turn hard enough it would rub unless i get a rear sway bar, might help .

I've got a set of 295/50R15 which is 14" wide I believe (could be a bit smaller) and have no trouble at all. I havent checked to see if anything wider would fit. These seem to hook up pretty good though and lowering the truck didnt bother them. They tuck under the wheel well nicely.

im puttin 29x15.5x15 on mine, i had tub it and move the e-brake cable clip. w/ 12'' rims i had to have 8'' backspace. ive seen a 70 lwb w/18.5'' he had to do the same stuff but he also had to remove the bump stops and cut away some of the ends of the trailing arms.

I used to have 31x18.5x15" Mickey Thompsons on 15x14" wide ralleys w/9.5" backspace, no frame or rear-end mods necessary
(e-brake cables were hooked up but I dont know if they would have worked properly)but did stretch the tubs 9". Although I never actually drove it like that, the wheels & tires fit w/no probs.

My dads 68 is tubbed w/ a chevelle 12 bolt the tires are mickeys.............i believe that they are 33/??/15.....................
