Hey guys,
On my 70 C10 the rearview mirror has loosened up to the point of being aimed at the floor when I hit a bump. Roof mounted mirror. When I removed the screw there was the remnants of a teflon washer between the mirror and the hook. There is also the little square spring in the hole that drags on the screw. Just wondering if the spring is all thats factory or if the teflon washers are stock too? Any way to tweak the spring a little or do I need a new spring/screw? I can fix it with a rubber washer or something, I just would prefer to have it stock.

I think all that other stuff was something a P.O. tried to stiffen up the RVM. You should be able to tighten up the screw in the bracket. Maybe some mild locktite would hold it. If the threading inside the bracket hole is stripped you may need a longer screw with a nut on the other side. They weren't made with the highest grade alloys. There was a reason they called it "pot-metal".

Filed down washers can help and a wad of steel wool works.

Thanks guys. Ill figure something out. I have my side mirrors set to work with a rear view so I am driving blind right now. I suppose I could start doing shoulder checks but thats no fun

Try taking the screw out of the mirror bracket (ball end) and saw thru the slit with a hacksaw. Reinstall the screw and you should be able to tighten it enough to make the mirror stay put. This will give it a little more chrush power.
