gauge questions

I have a 91 style dash cluster swapped into my truck when we done a nv4500 swap to it. Since the swap over I have had a issue of the water temp gauge reading hotter than normal on this engine, have swapped in the newer style sending unit same thing. Is there some way to calibrate the gauge with added resistance or something short of replacing the gauge? Everything else works good.

If you put the same sender in, then the only thing it could be would be teh gauge.

You should be able to put your stock style sending unit, and put an older temp gauge in and have it work

there are dif/ senders for dif/ gauges and years 73 to 80 is 80ohm 81 to 8? is 160ohm and may go to 91. the ohms are tested at 220F. In a NAPA book on temp senders it will tell you that there are many senders that look alike but have dif/ ohms. by getting one higher or lower you can change how your gauge reads. But first check your grounds. or run a jumper wire from your block to ground on your gauges. Matt

thanks, I will see if I can find any info on the different ohms of the senders. I have a friend that works at napa maybe he has the books with the ohms in them. I'm also gonna check out the ground wires in the truck.
