frame swap ?
hey... does anyone know of a maybe mid 80's frame that would work fairly simple under a '58 SWB... any possibilities by removing CV joints from a front wheel drive donor frame...could it be used with a drive shaft type application?

frame swap
Are you looking to use a 2wd or 4wd frame? I have a '62 Chevy 2wd frame and a '63 GMC front end that uses torsion bars (makes it very easy to raise and lower the front end and keep front end geometry correct). Where in Texas are you located?

thanks guys...2wd is what i am wanting...i live in northeast texas...norselander did you have any problems later because of moving spring hangers?

Actually, the former owner set it up. It hasn't been completed, but it looks pretty good. Should I use this setup I will make certain that the driveline angle is correct (optimized). This may necessitate a slight rotation of the rear axle housing.

I am doing a swap on my 57, using a 66 frame , all the measurements are so close as not to be a problem. I am using the cab and core support mounts off the 57 frame. Otherwise spacers etc, it will look clean and factory when done. 2 things to work out are the steering coloum and mounting the brake booster on the firewall. I am using a 72 power booster and the hanging pedals.
As far as the cab mounts go, I drilled the rivets out, clamped them in place, same distance above frame as on the 57 and then redrilled the frame to match the 57 cab mounts. I used grade 8 bolts. Much cheaper than updating the 57 frame to get a modern style front and rear suspension |

QKSILVER, I just did the very same thing. Except I am using a 68 Frame. So it already has the demples on the frame for the gear box from a later style to bolt up to. I am also setting a 1957 body down on this in this configuration. I guess I may need to start my own post about all this. E-mail me sometime and I will try to get some pics posted.

I used a 74 blazer 4X4 chassis on my 58. The only problem with using the late model stuff is track width. Kinda makes the tires stick out too much. I did graft a late cross-member on a 53. I cut and narrowed the crossmember to get the wheels and tires under the fenders to fit right. Sorta looks goofy otherwise.
