you also might need to move the adjuster to bring the shoes in closer cause they wear into the drums and create a lip around the outside of the drum keeping you from just sliding them off. clear as mudd?

To remove front drums, you need to remove the front hub assembly becuase the drum and hub are rivetted together. Just did this last week. I put new drums on and left the rivets off. Good luck to ya.

yes the origional drums were riveted on and you will need to remove the bearings to get it off. there will be three rivets holding them on. most people grind off the rivet heads to make it easier in the future. good luck.

or you could be an idiot like me and not realize that they are bolted on. I just popped the dust cover off, pulled the cotter pin out and removed the nut, then guess what, the drum came right off.

I've got a crazy question..... Why would they rivet the drums to the hub anyway?????

This is a guess but...
when the truck is rolling down the assembly line what keeps the drums from falling off until somebody bolts the tires on and adjusts the brakes? (my dad worked at the St. Paul Ford plant for 42 years so I hear lots of stories about things like that)

Back in the days of carburetors they put little plastic lids over the carb while it was rolling down the line. They make great water catch pans under the flower pots in your house. Small plants - 2bbl cover. Bigger plants - 4bbl cover.
