Standard Transmission or Manual Transmission?

Which setup should I go with?

I can go with a manual transmission, which has the SM465 and a married NP205 combo, or I can make a trip to saskachewan, and pick up a divorced NP205 so I can run my TH400.

My cab is currently setup for a TH400 BTW

do you have any problems with driving a manual truck? if not, i would go with the 465/205 setup. the 465 is stronger than the 400 by leaps and bounds. the 6.55:1 1st gear is twice as low as the 400s, and then some. makes it nice if you're crawling offroad, or starting out pulling a heavy load.

Nah, I could shift my 74 like a racecar, lol

The 465 needs a new shifting fork and syncros, but otherwise is in excellent shape. I would need to put in all the clutch stuff, get a new clutch, and find a steering column designed for a standard tranny. It does come with the t-case crossmember, and both driveshafts.

If I went with the divorced case, I'd have the ability to easily upgrade to a overdrive tranny (4l80e), but I would need to get three driveshafts shortened / made, and make a crossmember for it.

Overall, the divorced case would be easier, but I'd have to drive a fair distance to get the case...

Both setups are gonna cost me 200 bucks BTW. (not including other stuff like the driveshafts / shifting fork, etc)

go for the 465/205, its a much better setup than a 400/205, and being a married case, there's 2 less ujoints to worry about. as for shifting it like a racecar, dream on. the 465s shifter throw is VERY wide. for an upgrade to an OD trans, go for a NV4500 back it up with a 208/241, or a round pattern 205, and call it good.

first off, I always thought standard and manual were one in the same??

Second, what are your future plans for this truck?

Another vote for the 465. But split them apart and check out the drive sleeve first.
