how low can i go?
hey guys, tryin to decided on suspension parts for the '82 GMC, i dont really wanna run bags but i wanna get it as low as i can at ride height. how low can i go? btw im not afraid to cut and weld on a truck frame, or body for that matter....thanks

I dont really know much about lowering components for these trucks because I already had the bags before I bought the truck so I just dove in head first and bagged it. My friend has an 82 that has about a 5/6 drop on 22s and it looks pretty good but not a very comfortable ride.

4-6 or 5-7 drop is about all you want to do without rubbing or smacking the ground!

so what, spindles and springs up front, flip and ?? out back
just trying to figure out what i need... also, if i do a flip out back how much lower can i go before the axle hits the frame?? thanks Dan

Don't get drop control arms for what your doing. just get the 3 inch drop spindle, 2 inch spring, and flip kit! You will probably have to C-notch the frame for smooth ride |

Here's a 4/6(7-ish) drop on my '99 Tahoe. It's DJM flip kit and Hotchkis shackles on the rear, and DJM 2" springs and spindles up front. The Tahoe is a little heavier in the rear than a truck, but the rearend does bang the DJM notch snubbers from time to time. I've got some Eibach 3" springs to swap into the front when I get some time. Having driven the truck for a few weeks since the drop, I would definitely NOT go any lower than this without bags to raise it up.

I ran with a 7/12" static drop on my '87 for about a year. You don't get any lower than that without laying on the ground. My lower a-arms were approx 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch off the ground. In the rear i had a step notch and could've went lower but kept about 1.5" clearance for travel. I knew i was going to bag it soon so going this low wasn't really a problem for me, i wouldn't suggest going this low permanently without bags because you really can't drive anywhere without wrecking crap. Although, i was running a 15" rim with low profile rubber, if you were going with a little bigger rim and or tire you might be ok with the extra ground clearance.
In the front i had 3' spindles and 4" cut coils, in the rear i had a 5" flip, 3" blocks and removed a few leafs for another 4" heres sum piks of how it sat.... |

cool pics, my plans are 3" spindles, 2" springs, flip and a small set of blocks out back...hoping for 5 and 7
current tires and wheels are 15x7s with 225/70s up front and 275/60s out back, will eventually go with 17x8s and 245/40s all around thanks for the info and pics guys! later Dan

hey col clank, in the rear they are 265/50/15, had 295's but they rubbed (plus a 265 is a little lower lol) , in the front i have/had 225/50/15 Hercules, but i blew one so now on one side i have a Michelin 195/60/15, close enough to keepin front end level for now lol.

if you wanted to keep close to stock ride and whatnot, you could throw some drop spindles and lower control arms, then z the ride up to about 4" and youd get alot of drop without changin out coils, that could result in 8-9" drop up front. Any questiosn on the z let me know.

Hey slammed 87 on the front wheels were they 7" or 8" wide.

They were 8's with 4" backspacing.
