I want to build a 3/4 burb. I have heard the GMC frame is stronger, also are the 1/2 and 3/4 the same. I know that the are same dimension but is the frame stronger on a 3/4

I've heard that chevy & GMC 67-72 4x4 frames are identical whether 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton. AFAIK, only the axle assys and brake systems differ between 1/2 & 3/4 ton 4x4s.

Thanks, I didn't want to start with a 1/2, which I have if the 3/4 was stronger. Saved me some time and more important money! Around here 3/4 axle's are fairly easy to get. Now for the not easy to find uncracked 4x4 400 trans with shield and brackets................

Yup,same frame.What he said and heavier springs(interchangeable).

Yup, forgot springs are different, at least on the rear axle. I own both 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton burbs. You'd think I'd notice every major difference.

I knew the springs were different. I only have 2 1/2 burbs!

The cab mount kits are the same for the 4x4 and 3/4 tons. I have to agree that they would be the same frames

BTW, now that I have a '72 K20 pickup, I noticed that the single, top-mounted, overhanging frame bracket for the oem exhaust hanger is farther to the rear on the pickup's frame than on my'71 K10 burb's frame. On the burb, the bracket is near the transfer case. On the pickup, it is near the rear spring eye (foward of the rear springs). I'm talking oem single exhaust on the drivers side, of course.

First difference I've noticed between pickup frames and burb frames. Anyone have a pickup and a burb that they can take a look at one day this week?
