Question about POR 15

WHat is the easiest or only way to put POR 15 rust preventive and put it on the underside of my truck? I have a 69 chevy custom camper and want to put this on. So far people have told me use a brush. Do I need to prep the underside at all or the areas I will be putting it on? The truck is not disassembled so I would have to lay on my back. Any ideas would be great.

POR-15 requires a lot of prep work, but it works well in the long run. It does brush on well.

It requires 1) Cleaning surface of grease and dirt.
2) preping surface with Phosporous (sorry I cant spell) to eat rust (must be kept wet for 20 min)
3) 2 coats of POR-15 (a little goes a long way)

Step 2 is a real pain in the butt. POR-15 is NOT UV protected so it will fade, but being on the under side that should not be a problem. I would also cover it with an undercoating anyway so that part isn't a problem.

I used POR before and the quote about it not being UV proof could not be more true. It literally faded and peeled off in sheets in the wheel opening where you would not think that too much sun would get. But I do agree that it does stick well in other areas. I would seriously consider removing the box to do this though, it will be a huge pain in the..... with that acid and POR dripping in your eyes. Best of luck.

Don't use POR-15. Use Eastwood Rust Encapsulator. It's a one-step application, won't peel like POR-15 does if you don't do everything perfectly. It's also cheaper, you can brush it on, spray it on or use rattle cans.

I've seen a couple of the other guys in the bodywork/painting forum who agree ... Eastwood's product is better for most applications.
