Found the problem with my gas gauge
All the wires seemed OK. As near as I could tell, the ohms were about where they should have been-I figured I had about a half a tank, and the ohms were about 45, so I pulled out the cluster to check out things there and to replace a couple lights that were not working and I found this:
See the break in the circut? (that also explained the lights not working) I had an extra circut board so I swapped it out and plugged in the wire harness and nothing! No change at all in where the gauge was (about 3/4 tank). I decided to change the gauge itself, so I dusted the donor up and changed it out and it worked! I studied the old gauge carefully and noticed that the needle was very stiff-much harder to move than the donor. I think it was stuck in place for so long that it kinda froze in place and wouldn't move.

I need to pop mine off and look at the circuit sheet for mine. I've got some weird stuff happening with some of the lights in my panel.
Glad to hear this thing is working! Every time I see someone have success like this, it makes me want to dig into my truck more and more

gabet40- you might have a pin hole in your float. Pull the sender out and see if gas is sloshing around in the float.
