GMC Grille

Has any of you GMC owners (I have a 72) out there purchased a reproduction grille lately?
I have been looking a them and the price is all over the board from 350.00 -499.00. Are there two differant grilles or are there just that big of a range in price?
Thanks
JC

I am guessing the price difference has to do with metal thickness and chrome quality.
I have one that would work for a driver, but if you have a nice truck it would look silly.

There currently is only 1 manufacturer of the 67, 68-70, & 71-72 GMC Grilles, everyone carries the same, some make more some make less, and some buy in larger quantities to offer better deals.

I wasn't too impressed with the repro 72 grille I saw at a parts supplier in California so I am keeping an eye out for a decent original that I can get rechromed. The repros seemed alot lighter weight and the chrome didnt look the greatest.

I have a 69 GMC grille in good condition with one little ding that should be easily fixed and a 72 GMC grille that could be fixed up to daily driver or off road grille. Due to the price of reproduction GMC grilles and the look I am going for I decided to change to a 67/68 chevy. At the canfield swap meet I scored a straight grille, Hood latch, grille support, Core support, decent battery tray, and front fender supports for $90.00. Oh yea it still has the voltage regulator and horn on it.

Score

I talked to a local vendor today (C&C Pickup Parts out of Oaks North Dakota) at the spring swap meet ( I was reminded that I live in the great north country as it snowed for short time) he said that the grilles are very nice except that the ones he has received this year have had quality problems small tears in the metal on the inside. He is going to check out the ones he has in stock (of course didn't have one with) and let me know, have any of the vendors out there noticed any qquality problems with these grilles? I have my original grill which is pretty nice (has some rust on the inside and slightly pitted on the outside) and will use it if I can't find a good quality new one. I just wanted it to be as near perfect as possible.
Thanks for the feedback.

re-chrome the origional is going to be the best fit and make your truck closer to origional. If your going for origional it will also be the best way to pass a judges inspection at a show. My uncle does alot of show judging and he has got pretty good at spotting reproduction chrome and origional. One thing that is normally a dead give away is too perfect.
