Glad to be back in a Bowtie.

Hey guys,

I copied and pasted this from my first post in the welcome thread. I figure its appropriate.

I see a lot of familiar names from when I was a regular on chevytalk. I've been going through bowtie withdrawl for a few years since growing family requirements dictated the sale of my beloved '75 Caprice Classic Convertible.
Another chevy has joined the family fleet, this time in the form of an '89 Burban. Its good to be back in a bowtie. I've been a DaimlerChrysler tech for five years now, and I'm getting bored of working on and driving strictly mopars. The kids are now old enough that I have a bit of spare time on my hads and my wife won't let me touch her Town and Country.
I picked the burb up for pretty much a song and dance. Its a 2wd low mile, silver with tan interior, fairly bare bones model. Injected 350, 700r4, cruise, tilt and A/C. Thats it....
Rubber floor and all. The interior in spotless. Headliner and dash are PERERCT, seats are spotless. The body is starting to show its Canadian winters in the typical spots. The rear quarters around the wheel openings are bubbling, and there are a couple spots appearing on the front wheel openings. The doors and floors are spotless, but it has one major project for the summer. The tailgate is spot welded closed. The hinge panel is pretty much gone. The truck came with all the new (GM) pieces to fix it, I just have to find the time to pull the hitch and bumper and go to work. The gate itself is a bit tough, but saveable. The window mechanism works fine, and the glass and tracks are fine. I'll need a new exterior crank aswell.
I haven't done a whole lot to it yet. It needed pretty much a complete exhaust. The studs were gone and the y-pipe flanges had turned to dust. I pulled the manifolds and changed the studs, slapped on a couple repair flanges and saved the y-pipe and the factory cat. From there back is a Dynomax 3in mandrel bent cat back system. Other than adding a remote start and a Pioneer cd player, thats it.
Once the body is all fresh I'll sit back and start planning. I wouldn't mind ditching the 2.73's for a 3.73 posi and maybe dropping it a chunk. That or go higher... Even though its a 2 wheeler, the 31/10.5's look great on the rally wheels so I think they'll stay, or go up to 33's with a slight fender trim. With a new set of centers and deep trim rings and shaving the drip rails it'll be good to go.

Anyway, I'm sure glad I stumbled upon this site. I hope I can contribute favorably in one form or another.

Dan.

In the past 30 years about 90% of Fords are still on the road, the other 10% made it home.
