need exhaust help

i need to get new exhaust for my stepside. its got headers and some temporary exhaust(one foot of pipe and turbo mufflers). i got a qoute for using my existing mufflers and exiting before the rear tires- about $200 canadian. or exit straight out the back- about $300-$350 canadian. the thing is right now im goin deaf every time i drive it, and im worried that if i go before the rear tires that it will still be too loud inside the cab.

id like to know what everyone else is running and how the interior sound is like. im not worried about if its quiet or anything, just dont want to go deaf every time i go out. thanks

I got mine done coming out in front of the drivers wheel either 2-1/2 or 2-3/4. It has stock manifolds , single cat, glasspack, and turns out.
I think is it too loud and kind of annoying. I fixed my a/c just so I can keep my window up Maybe it seems to loud because it all comes out on my side, but I definately wouldn't get it done like that again.

Aftermarket DIY systems (most seem to be 2-1/4") start around $110-120US if you don't mind doing your own work. Of course, by the time you got one into Canada it'd cost significantly more...dunno if it'd be a viable option for you or not.

I have shortie hedman headers that I cut off the ball collector and welded on 2 1/2" flanges, 48" of pipe into flowtech mufflers and turn downs. sounds great. seems to vibrate the whole truck but you can hear her comming.

I ran mine out behind the wheels at a 45 degree angle to the wheel towards the back, I can definitely hear it, but it is by no means too loud for my liking Roll up the windows, and you can definitely hear it, but you can have a normal conversation. Outside behind the truck it is nearly deafening when I romp on it, lol

I am running headers into 2 1/2 pipes through Cherrybombs. I have turn downs just past the back of the cab before the axel. No problem with sound at all. I was told it is good to just make sure the pipe atleast ends past the cab, where you sit.

well today i got my boss to get me a quote from the shop he got his done at and they said $190 canadian including taxes for it to exit straight out the back or angled behind the rear tires. good thing i checked around first. now i need to decide which way i want it.... straight out or angled?

please post pics of your stepsides so i can see how it would look, i dont have a rear bumper so straight out might look stupid.

They wanted $150 when I went to get mine, so I told them that I was just going to go to a place that told me $75 instead. I wasn't just saying that either. So they did it for $75.

I have never really liked the way they look straight out the back, and I agree that it will not look right without a bumper.

What do I know...I don't have a stepside.

i've got dual 2 1/4 flows exiting in front of the rear wheels. i had it routed that way (from rear exhaust) 50% for the look and 50% for the noise. its louder in the cab, and i love it that way. i only listen to my radio half the time, the other half i just listen to my truck. with my windows up its not all that loud, and its not even BAD with them down, but you can definately hear that, and thats how an old car should be IMHO

another thing is that there is no sound proofing in the truck.

I'd run it angled out behind the tires

190 bucks is a really good deal for a complete exhaust setup too! They want like 400 here!

ya thats what budget brake and muffler quoted me at first and like $600 for flowmasters and out the back, but im goin to this other place now. and i think i will go with angled out the sides. thanks for everyones suggestions
