power steering hoses
I have a pump and box to install on my 72 but have a hose question. The pump is an 82 and the box is a 72, what should I be asking for at the parts counter? Are the boxes the same from 72-82? or should I just have a hose shop make me a pair?

Hey Dubie, i've got a power steering hose i'll give you if you want it. It's brand new, still has the tag on it from NAPA. Might save you $20-$25 bucks or so. pm me with your address if you think you might want it........Jerry

If the 82 has a metric fitting (I'm not sure when they changed) and you have a 72 box you can swap the fitting on the box and use 72 hose.

Dubie
I tried glancing through the FAQs, but could not find the thread. I remember, I believe TX Firefighter, talking about some metric to SAE thread adapters to make a new style box (metric) hook to old style pump and lines, so in my mind it should work with the pieces reversed. You could go new style lines to old pump or old style lines at box, with adapters to the new pump (I think I would go that way).

i agree to check if it is SAE or metric. the part that screws into the back of the PS pump that the hose screws into will screw out and if you have an older pump that is SAE threads take that same part off and screw it in. while you have the pump out i would throw a seal kit at it. its easy and you can get the kit at the dealership. just dont put it back together till you are DONE cause it doesnt come back apart easily with the new O ring. ask me how i know
