quick simple question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I've always heard people saying that they would pull out their torque wrench for their lug nuts, but I've never heard how many ft/lbs of torque lug nuts are supposed to be.
So that's the question.
How many ft/lbs of torque for lug nuts?

It might depend on what kind of rims you have. The tire shop told me to tighten the 15 x 10 alloys on a chevy 1/2 ton 68 - 70 ft/lbs. The first 300 miles I had to re tighten them 5 times since they were new wheels. My .02

My manual says 85 ft-lbs. That's what I have always done.

the tire shop up here does 85-90 on my lugs. makes it a pain if you have to use a tire iron to take them off. on a 71 5 lug i believe the lug is bigger so it wuold have a higher torque rating

it's a 72 5 lug.
And it's steel rims.

Tighten the rears as tight as you want, tighten the front disc brake no more then 85, or you may cause warpage of the rotors.

Aluminum aftermarket wheels require you to re-chech ofton.
