67-72 Hood Deflector ? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Has anyone seen and or is using the "Stampede" brand hood deflector that molds to the front of the hood on our era trucks? I seen a '70 LB with one mounted on it at work today. Don't know who owns the truck, it was just in the parking lot and never seen it before. Molded to the contour of the truck rather nicely, dark smoke acrylic but was mounted using Velco tabs, looked to be about 6 or 8 mounting pads. Would like to know how well it holds up at highway speeds. After spending fair amount of $$$ to get the truck repainted I would hate to be rollin' down the road and have it come loose and bounce across the hood and disappear over the roof line as I began using Mega curse words.

iron horse: I've wondered the same thing. I bought one then opened the package and read the instructions. I about sh*t. They provide the 6 or 8 velcro tabs and some rubber bumpers to adhere to the front of the truck - what engineer came up with this one? Definately not one who owns one of our trucks. Needless to say, I have not installed mine! I have looked at it trying to come up with another way of mounting it - until then, its not going on my truck. Wish I would have looked at one up close like you before I shelled out the cash for it. As for how well it stays on the truck while driving - I may never know.

widow-maker, Yeh you have to wonder just how well the Velcro tab/hook pads will work at 70 mph on the intersate. If you ever get to feelin' nervy and mount yours please post on how well it does. I would really like to protect the front hood area with the new paint but not at the cost of having broken acrylic bouncing across the hood.

I made headlight covers out of lexan on my 69 GMC and they are held on with 2 small stips of velcro each... a reg stip cut in half and stuck to the thin edge on the headlight bezel on each side. They have never come off...even at 100mph. So a hood guard should stay on....... my 0.02 worth

I use to have a (I hate to say it) Toyota with a hood deflector mounted on the front with velcro and the rubber tabs. The only problem I ever had in 5 years was one of the rubber tabs came off so I replaced it with a piece of vacume hose cut to length. It never came when I didn't want it to and i put it through countless auto car washes.

Stone chips look better than hood deflectors or damage from hood deflectors.Unless you run alot of unpaved roads directly behind other vehicle,it shouldn`t be an issue.

Ironhorse, I know a guy in topeka running one of those from LMC on his cheyenne 4x4. He drove it quite a bit to and from Lawerence and he never had a problem, plus they sure look pretty sweet on the front I must say. Personally, I like the idea that they use velcro... I'm not much into drilling holes in virgin metal. My 2 cents. Trevor

How about using the 3M film instead of a deflector? link . Almost invisble when on and it should protect against bugs and small rocks.

I still sh!t about the hood coming up if I had that on too I'd have a stroke!
