Thumbs up LT1 for the 72 short bed

Well I am going to set out on the adventure... I just captured a 1992 Buick Roadmaster that owns the 5.7 LT1 350 with 70,000 on the clock with the 700R4... looking under the rear I noticed the differential is a limited slip on it as well... along with the drive train it have the beautiful dove gray power split bench limited leather seat with arm rest console that I intend to put in the 72 short bed...painless has the harness and I imagine the programing needed to reconfigure to the new application... has anybody put an LT1 or an LS in there 67-72 and what is it that I need concern myself in doing that... I obviously want to keep the emissions and computer to capitalize on the economy of potential and still have a poor mans vette power source to get me to church on time...

First off...welcome to the board from Seattle, WA! You will find several guys here that have completed or are working on LT1 conversions. It sounds like you found a great bunch of part on that Buick. Post some pictures of your truck and the conversion process. Everyone would love to see them.

It is actually very straight forward install other than having to move the trans crossmember back due to the length of the 4L60E trans. The engine will bolt in with the original V8 mounts and the trans will bolt right to an auto crossmember.

Go with a good harness, I like Painless. I would advise against having the original re-worked. I had it done and didn't like it and then spent the money on a Painless. Save yourself the money and do it right the first time.

There are multiple places to get your computer reprogrammed. www.speartech.com www.hotrodlane.cc (This is Street & Performance, they have anything you will need for the LT1.)

Goodluck with the project but i thought the LT1's didnt come into the carprices/roadmasters untill 1994 then they only ran from 94-96..... prior to 1994 was a 305 unless it was a special order throttle body 350, not a multiport fuel injected lt1..... i might be wrong though.... welcome to the board also

^ You are not wrong, B bodies didn't get the LT1 until 94 model yr. On the off chance you have an LT1 one of the things I would recommend is rebuilding the optispark or replacing it with something else before installing in your truck.

thanks neonlarry for verifying that, i thought 91 was first year for vettes 93 was for F-bodys and 94 was for B-body's... the vettes were the only ones to get the 4 bolt mains also..... and yes as neonlarry said get a rebuilt optispark..... they say around 90K miles they go bad.... easy to do... LT1's are cool enignes.... lot of nice things they did to them...

What's up? I'm new the site. I too have an LT1 w/4L60E from a "B" body that's going in a '72 cheyenne LWB. My concern is the AC compressor. Will it clear the frame in it's location on the LT1? Will I have to go with the Corvette bracket? Any help would be appreciated.

I was under the impression that the 4l60E didn't come out until 1993.

Ezurcc-

You will have 2 choices, you will either need to notch the frame or run the Vette bracket.

well i have learn that what is called the LT1 is the individual 8 injection ports (multiport) on the manifold so 71rat, you are correct... the 92 5.7 TBI roadmaster is not the LT1... i passed up a 95 roadmaster wagan with the LT1 last weekend but the car had 170,000 on in for $500.00... but i will play with this TBI even if i just put a holley on it instead of the factory computer TBI ticker...

I'm still working on the engine(overhaul, camshaft, rockers & springs), so I haven't gone to actually put the engine in the truck. Just how much cutting on the frame will be needed?

EZURCC-

I went with a set of S&P brackets, but I saw in a thread that it is a triangle shaped cut you have to make on the top of the frame rail. Didn't look like that much from what I remember.
