9 inch rear question

I have a 9 inch out of a 66 f**d thats about a half inch from being the same lenth as the 10 bolt thats in my truck now.
I know Ill have to move the spring perches to make it work (leaf springs) but as I worked on last night I noticed that the pumkin doesent look centered.
Though this kinda wierd, the axles are the same length.
Anyone made this swap that might give me some insight on the offset of this axle. The axle is a factory 9 out of a 66 truck that I owned years ago, pulled this and went with a dana back then.

thanks
KW

for a 9" rear to have the pumpkin centered the axels will have about a 4" difference inlength it's because the offset of the pinion gear.

Also, the offset of the pinion gear helps the U-joints do their job. In order for them to work properly, the driveshaft should'nt be straight. (the offest of the pinion also centers the ring gear)

Thanks, I thought I was going to have to trash this idea.
That would have been bad because I all ready cleaned it up , moved the perches and put a spool and new gears in it.
Cant believe I didnt see that offset will I was cleaning it, single minded I guess.

thanks
