It Dont Fit!

OK,, finally working on my 72 again,, I hit a deer last year,, and finally got all (new to me) parts (mostly from teeitup, thanks Randy) and got the core support and fenders etc on.. started to install my new 4 core radatior ( with new uppers and new cushions.. but old lowers. I swear they are still 4 core lowers as the old support I got had AC with it,, well the radaitor cushions fit nicely in the upper supports (new) but the lower little tight on the sides and the whole radatior is about 1/4 to 1/2 higher than the core.. ( I hope this wasnt a 67 core? well now what are my options? trim the cushions? but they are new and the raditor is very expensive to risk , or grind off the lower supports and order new ones? of course I POR15'd the entire core support? I'm kinda frustrated right now.. any ideas? I dont think just bolting and tightening the bolts will work... am I missing something?

I went through the same problem. When I measured, the new radiator was 1/2" taller than the old. Also, the repop pads are thicker. I ended up trimming some off the new pads and making shims to go between the upper mounts and the core support. Someone recommended using the old pads in the top until the new ones on the bottom were broken in, but I didn't have enough room for that.

I got new rubber hold downs and the new one is 1/8"+ thicker than the stock ones. I only had 2 left for some reason and the hold downs are on a angle like Freds truck. I am getting sick of these aftermarket parts that just dont fit. I would guess you need to cut the rubbers down to make the hold downs sit level. I have not looked into fixing the problem too close cause I know there is a truck in the wreckers down the road that has a 4 core rad.

Joe, I don't think it was a 67-68 support, If I made a mistake I got another one down here off a 69 thats good. Thanks Randy

Thanks Randy,, mine looks just like Fred T's before shots,, I took my little dremel clone out and ginded off the rust that I POR 15'd that opened some space,, I think I will go ahead and put a spacer down,, I think everyone is right just the aftermarkets are a little bigger and the holddowns are at the same angle.. I just want to make sure the hood closes.. I dont think its a 67-68 because my fenders bolted up.... and they look somewhat aligned,, got he inners on finally, just now need to find new bolts for the holddowns,, because the ones I thought would work,, dont.. anyone know what size bolt will fit?

I think they are a 5/16. Same as the inner fenders.
