who all has swapped in a LS1?- need motor mount info

I`m picking up my GEN III LS1 truck motor on Monday. I`m putting it in my 68 swb. I know I need adapter brackets but can I use the stock sbc frame mounts and stock motor mounts? I was told "it would probably work" but haven`t found out for sure. What is the best way to mount it and what about headers? Here is a little info on the motor. I don`t know the year yet or the mileage but it`s a pretty complete 4.8 but I`ve already bought a 5.3 crank and rods to turn it into a 5.3. It`s missing the a/c compressor, alt., pwr steering pump, starter and computer and harness. It has the acc. brackets though. It also has 2 cracked heads so I`ll need to find a set eventually. I`m not worried about the computer because I need to have it built to my specs anyway. I`ve already emailed Speartech about building a computer and harness. Anyway, any help that you can offer would be great. i know there are a few guys here who have done the swap so I`m hopeing these people chime in and post. Thanks.

Yes, just get the adapters from any vendor and you'll be fine. F-body LT's will not clear tha mounts though. Stock F-body exhaust manifolds will clear fine. Not sure on the 4.8/5.3 but I can't see it being much different.

Thanks guys. I`ve seen those mounts before but the guy said they won`t fit with my " clam shell " style mounts so I need to know if I can use the stock V8 frame mounts and use stock rubber mounts for a 68 sbc. Thanks.

I am planning on using I6 engine towers and the stock 67-72 sbc rubber mounts. The style mount that has 3 bolts that go onto the block and one bolt to the engine tower.

No, I am just trying to set my engine back further for better weight distribution (front to rear.)

If you already have "clam shell" style mounts you may not discount them until you get the adapters. The way the adapters look to me, they simulate the 3 bolt pattern on the earlier small blocks. If they are made the way I think they are, I don't see any reason you wouldn't be able to bolt the clam shell mounts to them. Unless it is a clearance issue.

thats what I thought too. another issue I have is when I got my truck it had a 402 bbc in it. The guy told me he used the clam shell mounts and frame mounts from a 87 with a bigblock. I thought all of the clamshells were the same. Well I know the part that bolts to the block is the same but what about the frame mount? I`m worried about getting it located in the frame correctly. Thanks for the help.

I have small block with the big HEI in the I-6 hole and I can still get the dizzy out. There might be a problem with transmission bolts though...I had to tighten mine with the front cab mounts loosened and the cab jacked up. Have the proper tranny fill tube however...no aftermarket stuff will fit.
