I was Framed

Last night my son and I finally got the bed pulled off the frame of our donor truck, we were going to use this frame as it is a coil spring frame, but to my amazement the frame rails above the springs has rusted to the point that the coils are beginning to move thru. My question, can I use a leaf spring frame and transfer the coil setup to it. Welding is not a problem, just don't know if the frames are identical other than suspension. We have two leaf spring chasiss to pick from, a 69 and a 71. Thanks for the help.

Howdy Central Illinoisan! I'm not 100% sure, but I think you can use a 67-72 leaf sprung frame and just transfer the mounts over. Although I'm not 100% sure, I'll bring the post back to the top for you, good luck!

If welding is not a problem...why not fix the one you have? I have an extra spring mount section you could put in place of the one you have now. If you convert a leaf spring frame you will need to move the trailing arm mounts and build or install the coil spring cross member too. Couple that with cab removal and all the ancillary work. I think it is easier to fix what you have. My coil spring cross member is available for $25 plus shipping if you are interested.
