Well I'm wanting to replace the Drums up front with discs, but I'd like to
go with the 6 lug and not the 5 lug. (trying to keep the wheels all the same, front and
back) I really don't have the $859 bucks that ECE wants for their Std Height
6 lug brake kit. Are there any other options for a 6 lug disc setup?

you could do junk yard parts. thats what i am doing. i have everything and all i bought from ECE was brake lines and rotors. but if you are diving in i would change out all ball joints and tierods.

there was no factory 6 lug discs.you would have to have the rotor re-drilled to the 6 lug pattern or re-drill the rear axles to the 5 lug pattern

I don't know what he paid, or the company he used, but PM EdB. He converted his 70 to 6 lug discs with a kit from someone and he seems really happy with it.

Actually - there was a factory/ 6 lug disc. Mine are from a 1990 3/4 2X4 light duty. Got the rotors from AutoZone for 59 each new. Check the FAQ section for how to do this swap...

When i bought my truck the po had put a 5 lug front disc set up on the front but had the original 6 lug drum rear. I didnt care for the 5 lug rims as much as the 6 so i just bought new rotors from CPP. I got them cross drilled too and they werent too expensive.

My 2 cents: I think First Gen has the right Idea, I have been researching all this info for the last two weeks and have read so many different combos they are all running together now. I'm looking in the *8 LUG catagory so I didn't write down all the 5/6 stuff, but I did read where the 88-98 6 Lug with 1" width rotors were used to keep the same pattern as the back. I also remember something about the outside tie-rod becomes the same as the inside so you might check the numbers on that I don't have any books on 88-98 here in front of me, but it does sound like a workable deal.

Actually the pieces I am using on the front are 1.25" thick 11" rotors. I will be using the 6 lug 1" thick floating rotors for my rear disc conversion when I get to that...

i used all the brake assembly's off of a '72 1/2ton to put on my '67 ,and bought the 6 lug rotors from ece.they even came with the bearing races in them.worked out good.

but when you buy new bearings they come with races. i dont think i would put new bearings in tracks that didnt come with them. JMO

that's usually true except for some wheel bearings - I mean some wheel bearings you have to buy the race seperate if you need it...

So let me get this straight.

I can get the hardware from a 71-72 1/2 ton (spindles,caliphers,etc)
and then get the 1-1/4 rotors from ECE and I can use my current
A arms from my 69 C10 1/2 ton P/U?

If you use the 71-72 spindles, you will have to change the lower ball joints. And you will have to change tie rod end also. Check out GMCPAUL's, he has a kit for $240, that would be your 6 lug rotors, calipers, bearings, dust caps, brake hoses. Call him, he has all the answers. I bought the kit for $460 that included drop spindles and everything else I mentioned. That way all parts are stock to my 1970. Very nicy, complete kit.
