New Engine Need Help - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Just brought home a new engine with the 70 and was wanting some recommendation. Should I mount it in the 8 or 6 cylinder position since it is only a 7 Cylinder?????

Kinda depends on which tranny you are going to use..............If you are going with a prop I'd lean towards the GMC 305 V-6 mounts. Good luck............

Leave it in the bed, just turn it straight so it wont blow you over sideways!

i'M SURE YOU WILL NEED THE COWL HOOD FOR CLEARENCE. OR.. YOU COULD TAPE IT TO THE TOP OF THE CAB.. JUST MAKE SURE YOU READ THE SIGNS ON THE BRIDGES... yOU DON'T WANT THAT THING HITT'N BOTTOM OF ONE

I sure am thankful for the suggestions. I kind of like the idea of tapeing it to
the top.
It is a Continental W670 tank engine. It is just like it left overhaul on 4-12-1945.
It is on loan to me at this time. If I ever own it, I will have to hear it run. I love
the headers.

Bubba and Krue,

The owner, a close friend, was by yesterday and it came up about
running it. It might just happen. If it does, I will let you know.

I have a R670 aircraft verson that I do plan to run. I had planned to
use short stacks for the exaust but after seeing the tank verson headers,
I think that they would do better. There was also an issue of using
a short pipe on the bottom cylinder: it is by the carburator. The
tank headers would take care of this. We have a line on some and
I should know today if I can get a set. I will let you know when it
gets close.

I plan to start the body work on my truck soon and will probably
work both projects together. Right now the body is scratched.
As you can see from the photos, It doesn't bother me to load it
up and take off. With new paint I will be very reluctant to scratch
anything. I guess I will have to get a "Beater" to use everyday.
I am sure impressed with some of the flatbeds being put together
and shown on the list.

I would have to buy a tank if I got one though. Neighbors don't like my truck in the driveway....imagine a tank aimed at them
