Aftermarket doors
Has anyone used one of the aftermarket doors? Any problems with fit or quality? I bought a SOCAL burb and had shipped. The transporter ruined the door when He was backing it off of the truck . I've been looking for a used one, but am considering a new one. Any suggestions.
Rob

I have seen the shells, I assumed (a$$ out of you and me) he was talking about complete doors. I could use 3 myself. Shells wouldn't help me much cause the rest of mine is rusty also.

Yeah, shells, not door skins. I would most definitely source used doors. With all the burb bodies left untouched in wrecking yards and also parted out burbs on this board alone, I would avoid the thin sheet metal of replacement doors. Unless someone makes burb doors with the same thickness metal that orig doors have. Remember, pickup bodies get picked clean long before burb bodies, all things being equal.
One note. If a used burb door has no penetrating rust on its outer skin, then it will likely only have bad rust down at the bottom of the inside where some folks cut holes for speakers. Replacement patch panels are available for this inside door metal below the door panel (vinyl/metal etc.). Having to cut and paste this area wouldn't show outside the truck and can be covered by the ubiquituos carpet covers for the lower inside door metal.

Don't turn down a good pick up door. You can make it into a suburban door as long as Your window frame is usable.

How hard is it to convert the doors smokekiki? What do you have to do. I am in need of a passenger burb door since someone clipped my mirror and dented the crap out of it. My window frame is still good, and I have a couple good pickup doors around. I haven't looked at it much, but it is just cutting some spot welds or something?

This is for the front 2 doors.Look where the window frame goes into the door. You will see the spot welds.Get a close measurment,so you have a good idea were the frame should go.Drill out with a spot weld cutter.Pull the window frames out.Put the suburbans frame in the door. You might want to place the door on the suburban, and get it lined up were it fits the way you want it before any welding.Put the window frame the way it fits, and tack in place. When happy with the fit weld it.Is there any structural damage,or just the skin?

Thanks for the info.
Just the skin is dented. I have toyed with trying to take out the dent, but when the mirror came off it tore some decent holes in the skin too. I guess I could reskin it, but that sounds like more work than swapping out the window frames. |

Scrubby,
DO you any pics of your door? If you decide to go the truck door route, I might be interested in your damaged door. Rob

When I first pulled up and posted to this thread, the pic of your burb didn't come up.
That is a beautiful burb! Great color.

There is an NOS door on ebay. Not sure if it is the one you need.
