Header on 250 L6?
The exhaust manifold on my '70 C/10, 250 L6 w/ man. trans., is in rough shape. I noticed LMC Truck sells a header for this engine. Any advice on whether I should or shouldn't go this route will be appreciated.
Tim

Not sure. I just bought a new Dynomax header kit (with all bolts, gaskets, flanges and everything) for $160. It's setup for dual exhaust now. I install them next week. I'm very happy with the purchase and happy with the service also. He (Ed) beat everyone else's price on the web.
The instructions say it will work with a MT, so I'm hoping my linkage for the 3onTree won't be a problem. Are you buying a replacement for the factory exhaust manifold or ?

Yes, this will be a replacement for the factory exhaust manifold. Where do I find Ed on the web? The 3onTree is one thing that has concerned me. Can I stick with single exhaust?

I have a header on my 250, but it has a floor shifter for the 3 spd. No clearance issues though. I does leak pretty bad at the head, I just haven't gotten around to changing the gasket (I hope that fixes it!). I don't know what kind of header it is, it came with the truck.

i had a really bad exhaust leak at the head and ended up with 3 carb fires in one day. the first one i was able to put out with a 20 bottle of water. the second one was in a gas station but was able to suck all the flames into the carb when she fired. and the 3rd was put out by a nice man with a fire extinguisher let me be the first to say you might want to get that fixed before it gets worse

Find Ed at www.Mothertruckers.net. Tell him you want the Dynomax headers for a 250 inline 6. Tell him you're a board member and that one of the other members sent you.
His email is ed @ mothertruckers.net, I think, but phone is a lot quicker and easier than email. PS - I can take photos of the kit I got from him if you want to see pics before you buy.

I'm waiting on header paint/coating from Eastwood. I don't like the look of black headers.
I'll surely be taking pictures

You can also buy a high performance intake for these trucks that will let you run a 2 BBL carb. Combined with the header, the 250 will become alive and sound real "throaty"! A friend in Memphis had that set up on his 68.

I have a set from Clifford for my 250, not sure if they make them or they are made by someone else to sell with the Clifford name. Couple of things. Make sure you replace the front and rear manifold nubs with threaded studs. That tends to help with leakage that may occur over time. Also note, if this is a daily driver, you will loose the heat source for the bottom of you intake. This means it may be a bit more cantankerous on first start and take a while longer to melllow/stabilize the enging until it warms up. The aftermarket intake manifolds normally have a water source flowing through them and uses the engine water/coolant as the intake heat source.

My current header setup is using bolts, not studs

Bolts will works, studs make it easier to mount. Mainly replace the two end unbs with a stud (or a bolt) so you can tighten the ends down.

The headers that lmc sells are heddman. I bought a set from a local speed shop. i had a floor shifter in so clearance was not an issue. I was not satisfied with the low clearance of the collectors. They hung down way too low for me! As for power increase it was a big differance!my 2 cents

I had a set of Clifford headers and a Clifford intake manifold with a small four-barrel Holley carburetor on a 250 about 10 years ago. It performed pretty well for a 250. I had a single sided 2.5" exhaust with a Flowmaster muffler. It had a nice throaty sound at idle, but had a way higher pitch than a V8 at higher RPMs. Here's the link to Clifford's website. It's not cheap stuff, but it is high quality.
